Pyro cumulonimbus clouds
Are formed when fires generate an upward surge of heat strong enough to create changes in the atmosphere above. This change can then form a storm cloud (cumulonimbus) which can be very hazardous for flight operations. Lighting from the clouds can even spark further fires. Find out more here.
We were concerned about the communities and the countryside under significant threat. The communities and countryside lost everything after these monster fires moved through.
As pilots we are fortunate to see the world from “up there”. The hard reality is that these communities faced utter devastation.
Late December and into January 2020 we were humbled to be able to lend a hand by providing free flights to anyone wanting to “get out”. We did this after dropping disaster relief personnel and fire fighters into these areas.
