Aircraft Feature:

Cessna CitationJet CJ1

Overview

The Cessna CitationJet is one of the most cost-effective and versatile private jets available in Australia. It seats 4 passengers in comfort, but can carry up to 6 passengers with a single-pilot. Not only does the CitationJet enable speed and comfort at an affordable price, but it also offers the convenience of operating into airstrips most other jets cannot.

Altitude Aviation can also provide the larger and improved CitationJet, the CJ2. To discuss the advantages of these aircraft, feel free to contact our Charter Manager, Glen Somerville, who regularly flies both the CitationJet CJ1 and CJ2.

Cabin/Seating Layout

The CitationJet has a 4 seat club configured cabin, with an additional sideways facing seat located behind the cockpit, opposite the main cabin door. Behind the crew compartment is a small galley area with provisions for snacks and hot/cold drinks. There is a small lavatory at the rear of the cabin.

The CJ1 provides excellent comfort with 2-4 passengers onboard.

Luggage Storage

The CitationJet has a separate rear baggage area for passenger luggage. Some baggage can be also stowed in the rear cabin. The aircraft also has storage space in two nose lockers, which are often set aside for crew bags and aircraft equipment.

Range

The aircraft's maximum range is 1485nm (2750km), or 1250nm (2315 km) with 2 passengers. Therefore the aircraft is more suited to shorter sectors of up to 2-3 hours, although its range is significantly affected by the number of passengers onboard.

Airstrip Capability

Not only does the CitationJet enable speed and comfort at an affordable price, but it also offers the convenience of operating into airstrips most other jets cannot, including Lord Howe Island and Lizard Island, both with less than 950m of available runway. The aircraft can also land at narrow airfields where other jets are also limited.

Powerplant

The CJ1 is powered by two 8.45kN (1900lb) Williams Rolls-Royce FJ44-1A turbofans. The engines are fitted with thrust attenuators which close hydraulically to suppress residual thrust while taxiing. Whilst the aircraft doesn't have full thrust reversers, it still has one of the best short-field capabilites of any jet.

Avionics

The CitationJet avionics include Electronic Flight Instrumentation System (EFIS) and modern Flight Director/Autopilot system, Flight Management System, Dual Global Positioning System (GPS), and Radar Altimeter.

History

The CitationJet is a modernised version of the original Citation versions, the main changes being a new laminar flow wing and a T-tail configured tailplane as well as a modern avionics suite. The highly successful CitationJet was developed as a replacement for the Citation and Citation I. Cessna launched the new Model 525 CitationJet in 1991, and the first delivery was in March, 1993. The CitationJet is effectively an all-new aircraft compared to older Citation models. Cessna has since released larger versions of the CitationJet, including the 6 passenger CJ2 (Dec 00), 7 passenger CJ3 (Dec 04) and soon the 8 passenger CJ4. The CitationJet family is proving immensely popular as a modern light jet.
